Staying relevant is all about keeping your spirit alive. These are tips that the experts say are practical ways to keep your cool factor soaring no matter how old you are!
1. Embrace the Tech!
No, you don’t need to know how to code (unless you want to). But… Learn to text without using emojis that look like they’re from the 90s. (You know, like a colon and a parenthesis for a smile, or a capital D for a laugh?) Embrace the newer and colorful emojis that reflect today’s digital lingo! TikTok? Just think of it as a fancy way of sending your grandkids dance videos. Bonus: you’ll be the coolest grandparent on the block! My 86 year old mom is on TikTok- it’s amazing to me!
2. Join the Social Media Circus
Facebook is like that old sofa that’s still comfy, but Instagram and TikTok? They’re the new bean bags! Experiment with posting your culinary masterpieces or that epic gardening fail. Remember, “influencer” doesn’t require a million followers—just a good sense of humor!
3. Get Your Learning Hat On
Ever wanted to learn the ukulele? Or taking a cooking class? Online courses are your best friend. Remember: it’s never too late to become a master chef or a rock star—and you can do it all from the privacy of your own home!
4. Volunteer Like a Boss
Giving back never gets old! Find a cause you’re passionate about. Whether it’s helping at a local shelter or reading to kids, you’ll not only stay relevant but also feel like a superhero!
5. Stay Fit and Fabulous
Ditch the “dad bod” (or “mom bod”) stereotype! Find a fun way to stay active—Zumba, yoga, or even a good ol’ walk in the park while blasting your favorite tunes. Just remember: if you can still dance like no one’s watching, you’re doing great!
6. Cultivate Your Curiosity
The world is still full of wonders, and it’s calling your name! Visit that new exhibit at the art museum, or take a day trip to a nearby city. Just don’t forget your sense of adventure.
7. Network Like a Pro
Networking isn’t just for young people! Or for career expansion. Attend local meet-ups or online seminars in your field or interest. It’s truly an opportunity to keep your mind sharp, build your confidence and feel a sense of accomplishment. It’s really a win win!
8. Fashion Forward (or Backward)
Update your wardrobe with a few trendy pieces that make you feel fabulous. If you feel good, you look good. It boosts confidence, reflects your style, keeps you current and when you pay attention to your clothing you’re suddenly prepared for any situation that comes up.
9. Mentor the Next Generation
Share your wisdom! (Without being annoying!) Become a mentor to someone younger in your field. Not only will you impart valuable knowledge, but you might also get a fresh perspective on the latest trends—plus, it’s a great excuse to feel wise!
10. Laugh Often
Never underestimate the power of laughter. Watch comedies, share dad jokes, or just find humor in daily life. It’s the best wrinkle cream!
