Ingredients
-
2 ahi (yellowfin) tuna steaks (about 4 oz each, ~1-inch thick)
-
2 Tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
-
1 Tbsp toasted sesame oil
-
1 Tbsp honey (or maple syrup)
-
¼ tsp black pepper
-
Pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
-
1 Tbsp neutral oil (canola, avocado, or olive)
-
Sweet & Spicy Mango Garlic Sauce (for serving)
-
Garnishes: sliced green onion, toasted sesame seeds, lime wedges
Directions
- Pat the tuna dry. This helps you get that gorgeous sear.
- Mix the marinade. Whisk together soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, black pepper, and cayenne.
- Coat the tuna. Brush or drizzle marinade over the steaks. Optional: marinate 10 minutes (or up to overnight in the fridge).
- Heat the skillet. Place a cast iron or nonstick pan over medium-high until hot. Add the oil.
- Sear the tuna. Cook for 1–1½ minutes per side for medium-rare. (Go 30 seconds if you like it very rare, 2 minutes if you prefer more cooked.)
- Slice & serve. Let rest briefly, then slice into ½-inch strips. Drizzle with the Sweet & Spicy Mango Garlic Sauce, sprinkle with green onions + sesame seeds, and finish with a squeeze of lime.
